Have you ever wondered: What’s the difference between a Bookkeeper, Accountant and CPA?
Simply put, a bookkeeper’s primary function is to enter data, like bank and credit card transactions. There are no minimum education requirements for bookkeepers, so they may or may not know the correct accounting rules to apply when recording those transactions.
Accountants typically have a bachelor’s degree, and therefore know the accounting rules. They understand financial statements and can prepare reports that are accurate, useful and reliable.
CPA’s are licensed accountants that have a bachelor’s degree, have passed the rigorous CPA Exam, passed an Ethics Exam, and have a minimum number of hours of experience.
So, which do you need? Chances are you actually need all 3.
